Korea: Day 2 Deoksu Palace

Day two started of with clouds and rains. The gloomy weather did not dampen our spirit. A good breakfast makes the start of day great :)

We had ours at this cafe called Beans & Berries. The morning at the cafe was a quiet one, or maybe I'm too used to noise over steamed buns and yao char kwai

We placed our orders and was given a buzzer that buzzes when our drinks and food are ready. I somehow felt slightly ulu since I've never come across such buzzer before...

Rain, still. We bought our tickets to Deoksugung. Ticket price: 1,000 won.

Hamnyeong-jeon, the residence and office of Emperor Gojong, and where he passed away too. The Emperor did not re-marry after the Queen's death, so there's no queen's residence unlike other palaces.

Yuhyeonmun in the middle of the flower-patterned wall.

This is actually just the west wing of Seokjo-jeon, the only western structure built on the palace compound. I didn't manage to capture the main building though, guess the rain's at fault. The west wing now serves as the National Museum of Contemporary Art.

Gwangmyeongmun, initially the front gate of the Emperor's sleeping chamber, but was moved from it's original site.

Junghwa-jeon, the throne hall. The ceiling of the hall and the Emperor's exclusive pathway to it are adorned with dragon figures, and the window frames are golden.
